LaVae M. Hoffman, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

LaVae M. Hoffman, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is a Fellow of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) who serves as the Program Director in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program at the University of Virginia. As a practitioner, she provided services to children and adults in public school and medical settings, administrated local and statewide programs for children with and without disabilities, and worked as a university clinical instructor before pursuing a research career. In 2014, Dr. Hoffman was inducted into the University of Virginia’s prestigious Academy of Teaching. She received the SHAV CDF Martha Mullins-Callendar Award in 2021. At the national level, she has served the profession as an associate editor for Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, chair of ASHA’s Special Interest Group 1: Language Learning and Education coordinating committee, and as a CAA accreditation site visit chair among numerous other committees.  She has twice received Editor’s Awards for the research article of highest merit for the year in ASHA peer-reviewed journals (JSLHR in 2008 & LSHSS in 2013).
